I have now also heard back from Marc Frankel of Lovejoy Bakers! I mentioned Marc in my earlier blog on Lovejoy Bakers – he is the co-owner I see almost every time I go there, so it was especially great to hear from him. As he is basically living my dream of owning an awesome local bakery, I was particularly excited to hear that he loves every minute of being there; it “never really feels like work,” Marc said. Perfect Saturday with the Perfect Pies: Lauretta Jean’s

When it’s a beautiful Saturday morning, all I want to do is wander through the Farmer’s Market. I love the people watching, dreaming up what fun creations I can make with all the fresh produce, and trying to stop myself from purchasing every delicious prepared treat available (and there are a lot!). This past Saturday, I headed out in the warm sunshine to do just that.

Rustic and adorable

As I zig-zagged past the baby strollers and tables of asparagus and flower bouquets, a cute and rustic booth caught my eye. With an adorable red patterned tablecloth and a display case that looked like the side of an old house, Lauretta Jean’s booth makes you feel like you are back at Mama’s house in the country, eagerly waiting for the pie to cool on the windowsill. Celebrating Brunch: Mother’s Bistro

To celebrate my friend Alyssa’s birthday, my large group of girlfriends and I gathered at Mother’s Bistro for brunch this morning. This is definitely one of the best places for brunch in Portland, so despite having to deal with the craziness associated with the Rose Parade downtown, we were all pretty excited when we were able to get a reservation somewhat last minute.

Chocolate Chunk Walnut Cookie

While waiting for everyone to arrive, I couldn’t help myself but stare at the bakery case – homemade cinnamon rolls smothered in frosting, fresh rhubarb galettes, and giant fresh-baked cookies. I was trying to not eat sweets this week (ok, not the smartest idea when you are writing a blog all about desserts) but I totally caved when I saw these cookies. They looked incredibly delicious and I figured my friends would have some of it too, plus it was for “research,” right? Well I’m glad I ignored my diet plan for the day – the Chocolate Chunk Walnut cookie I got was one a tasty appetizer! Continue Reading...
