While I’m all about the fancy dinners with multiple courses, bottles of wine and table service (I mean, who doesn’t on occasion?!), that can only happen every so often. Most nights during the week, especially with this new crazy busy job, I just want something casual for dinner if I’m too lazy to cook for myself.
That is part 1 of why I was so excited about CHKCHK opening up just a few blocks from my place. A fast-casual, easy, fun restaurant with great food?! Heck yes. Seriously, the powers that be in the Pearl District, we need more places like that. No more $80 a person restaurants. We have enough. Definitely no more window shade stores. Bring on things like P’s & Q’s markets or Thrive Bowls, like North Portland has!
Part 2 of why I was excited about CHKCHK is pretty obvious. Look at this place! How fun is it? With pop art, this place is fantastic.
Part 3: duh, the food. Their specialty is the fried chicken sandwich, which is ultra-battered, served on fluffy brioche roll with house made truffled pickles (yes, apparently that is a thing!). For non-meat eating folks like me, they’ve got truly excellent fried chickpea sandwiches. It will make you carnivores change your mind on that.
Their waffle fries will make your inner child thrilled. And when topped with their CHKCHK special sauce, truffled pickles and green onions, it will satisfy your adult tastebuds as well.
Do not even consider leaving without getting one of their house made Butterfingers. Yes, you read that right. I admit that was never my candy bar of choice (my brother on the other hand was all about them because of his obsession with the Simpsons and loving that Bart approved them), but this one, made with flaky layers of real peanut butter covered in creamy, rich chocolate, I totally dig.
Want an adult beverage with your sandwiches, they’ve got you covered, with a few beers and ciders on tap and funky house cocktails, like the RumRum & Cola with white rum, blackstrap bitter and cane soda.
And you can get all of this – sandwiches, a side, a drink – for only $15 a person! Thumbs up.

The decor looks really fun! I’m a fan of their Picnic House and Barlow bar and have this on my list. I appreciate how they have a vegetarian option too

That looks like a great spot! And housemate Butterfingers?!?! Sign me up (that’s my weakness!). Looking forward to checking it out.

“Power to the peeps” — HAHAHAHA! And that fried chickpea sandwich looks amazing! Too often veggie burgers are gloppy and depressing. That looks anything but.

I WANT IT ALL!!! Was so bummed to miss their pre-opening night and I still haven’t gotten out there to try it. Knowing they have housemade butterfingers though will definitely help motivate me to get there sooner!
