I’m sure you are thinking, “Erin, this is BAKERY bingo. Frozen yogurt is not a pastry nor is it a fancy dessert.” Ok that is all true, but sometimes you just gotta get a lighter dessert. As always, after dinner last night I was hoping for some dessert but I didn’t say anything as I was trying to be good this week. As luck would have it, Brice asked me if I wanted to get fro yo. Why yes, I would! It’s fat-free, high in calcium and high in protein – so it totally doesn’t count in my book! 🙂
We decided to try out a new self-serve place just a few blocks from us called Tartberry. Well, we thought it was new. Turns out it has been there for about 7 months! Either we just hadn’t been paying attention or they didn’t do a great job advertising, nonetheless we have finally found our fro yo place!
Tartberry is fun from the moment you walk in – brightly painted with cute sayings on the walls. Then your eyes come to all the choices – it was slightly like a sensory overload. There were about 10-12 different flavors of YoCream frozen yogurt, plus all of the swirled flavors too (like mixing Vanilla and Lemon). Then there were SO many toppings. That is definitely my favorite part of the self-service locations but that can make it hard to choose what to get! The Tartberry employee was super helpful, friendly, and gave us lots of sample cups to help make up our mind.
After debating for some time, I finally decided to go with both Cake Batter and Cookies & Cream fro yo topped with strawberries, raspberries, Oreos, Heathbar, and a couple yogurt-covered raisins just because they sounded good! Brice helped himself to a large portion of Ghirardelli Chocolate and Cookies & Cream and then topped it with tons of whipped cream. Both dishes were equally delicious and devoured in about three short minutes.
While some people might call fro yo a fad, I think I’m going to be a lifetime believer. Not too filling or heavy, but still deliciously sweet and tasty, Fro Yo from Tartberry is now my fave guilt-free treat!
What to Get:
- Cake Batter Fro Yo: Similar to vanilla, but richer and sweeter.
- Cookies & Cream Fro Yo: While there are no cookie chunks, this does taste quite a lot like the Cookies & Cream ice cream you grew up with. Add some Oreo cookie chunks and you’ll be good to go! 🙂
- Waffle Sundae: A freshly cooked waffle topped with your choice of fro yo and whipped cream!
Other Facts:
- Hours: Mon-Thurs: 11am-10:30pm; Fri-Sat: 11am-11:30pm; Sun: 12pm-9pm
