Happy early 4th of July! What do you have on the calendar for Independence Day? (Side comment – whenever I use that term, I think of the Will Smith movie about the aliens attacking earth and how I definitely stood in line to see it in theater on July 4th like a total nerd.)
Anyways! I am just super excited for a long weekend of relaxing and fun times with friends. The actual 4th will be spent at some BBQs and a friend’s house to watch fireworks. Then I’m heading to the St Paul Rodeo with some girlfriends on Saturday. And there is plan for a hike and some cronuts (!!) on Sunday. Should be a fun weekend!
If you’re looking for some great recipes, here are a few from other bloggers (most of whom are Portland-based also!) that sound pretty darn awesome to me:
That Patriotic Cake above by SugaryWinzy. Seriously, that looks incredible. Mine would a) take forever and b) not look nearly as pretty. But I would love it if someone made this.

Thanks Kelsey. Have a great holiday weekend!
Whoop Whoop!!! I AM SO EXCITED TO SPEND A WHOLE WEEKEND WITH YOU! Lots of photos to be taken!
Yay! Best weekend ever!
That cake is amazing! It’s so cool that I don’t think I could bring myself to actually eat it!
I agree! I would be so impressed if someone made that. It looks like it would take A LOT of time and effort.
Thanks so much for the recipe mention!
Hilariously enough, my friend and I were just talking about what we wanted to do for brunch tomorrow, which made me think of Blue Star Doughnuts, which made me think of a bakery crawl, which made me think of Bakery Bingo! We decided to stay in for the morning, but I will keep you posted if we end up doing a crawl at some point 🙂
Oh awesome! I hope you do a little crawl. Nothing wrong with a day of lots of dessert I say 🙂
Happy 4th! So perfect that fresh berries are the right colors for the holiday. I don’t eat grains or white sugar but I love the idea of a mixed berry dessert on some homemade panna cotta or coconut milk ice cream! Must pick some soon!
Anything with berries is pretty much a great idea to me! I love the sound of panna cotta with some fresh berries. Yum! Have a great 4th of July!
I plan on making vegan salads all morning and then have picnic with my boyfriend once his gets home!
Sounds like a good way to spend it! I’m making a cake right now, which is making my kitchen unbearably hot… a salad maybe would have been a better idea! Have a great 4th of July, Spencer!
Uhhh… bring that flag cake today, please!!!
If only I was that talented!!
Thanks for including my recipe! That flag cake is might impressive. Happy 4th!
