Canada has provided the culinary world with some good stuff, such as maple syrup, Poutine (fries smothered with cheese and gravy, I am not really a fan but a ton of people swear by it!), and Nanaimo Bars. The last one I recently heard about. Named after the town in British Columbia, Nanaimo Bars are the unofficial bar cookie of Canada! They start with an amazing base of cocoa, graham crackers, nuts, and coconut. That gets topped with a cream filling, then finally a thick layer of chocolate. I mean, really, how can you go wrong with a description like that??
A July 4th in England: The Hummingbird Bakery
London • hummingbirdbakery.com
Last year for my birthday, my good friend Ashley who lives in London sent me the Hummingbird Bakery Cookbook. She said it was this great cupcake place near her flat (she is American, but talks oh so British now 🙂 ) that was gaining a lot of popularity in England. Despite the recipes looking amazing, I was too lazy to figure out all of the conversions from grams to cups (I know, what a lame excuse), so I still haven’t made anything from the cookbook.
Mon jour préféré – A day in Paris and an incredible Pear Tart
Last summer my husband Brice and I went on an awesome two-week trip to Europe. As a present, Brice had planned a day in Paris for me – an all-day cooking class that included a trip to the local markets, cooking throughout the afternoon, and a 5-course meal. It was one of the most fantastic, fun days I have ever had. Chef Samira, of Food Unites the World, hosted us in her gorgeous apartment near the Arc de Triomphe, where she taught me so many great cooking tips and helped us cook SO much good food!
