Saint Cupcake is extremely well known for, well, its cupcakes. And don’t get me wrong their cupcakes are fabulous – in particular their Toasted Coconut Cream with delectable cream cheese frosting. Yesterday I attended a Halloween-themed cupcake decorating class taught by Saint Cupcake‘s Jami Curl, which was such a blast! Jami is so great – very down to earth, funny, personable and a great baker. She taught us the secret behind Saint Cupcake’s fantastic rich, moist chocolate cupcakes with hot fudge frosting, plus homemade marshmallows. Once the cupcakes were baked and the hot fudge was prepared, we got down to business – learning to decorate. I Can’t Believe It’s Not Gluten: New Cascadia Traditional

Some friends I trained for the Vancouver Marathon with invited me to go on a “bakery run” this past Saturday. The plan would include starting at New Cascadia Traditional bakery, which is owned by another runner, then after our run we’d meet back at the bakery for post-run treats. Duh, of course I was in.

New Cascadia was started by Chris and Teresa, the husband-and-wife team, after Chris found out he was gluten-intolerant. They started experimenting with gluten-free baking at home, then in 2007 became a vendor at one of the local Farmer’s Markets.
