Some of my current favorite things: squash of all types as discussed earlier this month, going to bed ridiculously early, and this new show on Animal Planet called Too Cute! (it seriously is all about cute pets, best idea ever). Also included on that list is talking with awesome chefs who are friendly, personable and make delicious food for everyone to enjoy.

Last night I got to do just that. I met with Sara Suffriti of Pieku, a newly started pie business that is absolutely fantastic. I first met Sara when she hosted a pie tasting at my apartment building. Her “pie poppers” were adorable and delicious. As I was sampling, I realized that they were the same mini pies that are sold at Salt & Straw, my new favorite ice cream shop (and also found in their Bourbon Pecan Pie ice cream!), so of course I was even more hooked on Sara’s creations. I recently read about this new North Portland ice cream shop featuring wacky flavors, like Pear with Blue Cheese or Brown Ale with Bacon. I will admit, I was a little apprehensive – what kind of flavors are those? What happened to the oldie but goodies like Cookies & Cream? But in the spirit of becoming a true foodie, I decided to put on my adventurous eater hat and head over there.

Worth the Wait: Tasty n Sons

I have been dying to try out brunch at Tasty n Sons for quite some time. Finally I convinced some friends this morning that it would be worth the wait for a table! Fortunately the food was just as incredible as I was told, so it was definitely worth it!

Incredible Chocolate Doughnut w Creme Anglaise

We arrived around 9:15am and were told it would be about an hour. After somewhat impatiently waiting, we got seated near their open kitchen. The menu is filled with so many incredible options – all very different and unique, and all sounded fantastic. There were so many choices, I could barely narrow it down.
