I am so super excited to share an exciting collaboration series that I am doing with my dear friend, Meredith. She blogs over at Martha Chartreuse, a great food and lifestyle blog. We always talk about our favorite restaurants and lengthy list of places to check out. We thought it would be so fun to hear where other Portland bloggers love to go for date night, happy hour, brunch, and other occasions. This sparked the idea for our new Thursday Tours series!
On regularly scheduled Thursdays, we will be bringing you recommendations from 2 bloggers with their favorite places for a select theme. One will be featured on my blog and the other on Meredith’s, both posted on the same day.
To kick us off, we figured drinks were the perfect way to celebrate the launch of this series! We’ve got two lovely ladies – Sara and Karen – sharing their picks for happy hour. Be sure to check out Sara of Salt. Water. Coffee. on Meredith’s blog!
Karen is a food and drink writer for Drink Portland, writes her own blog and also a professional writer for Staffing Robot and 11 Bridges. I first got to know Karen last year at Feast Portland. She is super fun and has some great taste in drinks!
Downtown HH Spots For Any Drinking Companion:
By Karen Locke of Drink Portland and Karen Locke blog
Downtown Portland has obvious choices for happy hour (a certain hotel rooftop, a well-known Irish bar, and countless other beloved cocktail spots) but when it comes to finding something for everyone it can be more of a challenge. Here are three different places depending on mood and drinking partners.
Laaaaaaaadies! Hidden Wine Happy Hour
Oregon Wines on Broadway (515 SW Broadway; 503-228-4655)
When you want to class it up or mix up the happy hour view, head to this wine shop near the corner of SW 5th and Broadway for Friday bubbly flights. The flights of three are usually under $30 depending on the selection that week. Bring a friend here who doesn’t respect the bubbs and you’ll get her hooked.
Fancy Cocktails With Your Coworkers
Jackknife Bar (614 11th Ave.; 503-384-2347)
Jackknife might be a hotel bar but that don’t mean a thing in PDX. Come here for the big tables with ample seating and be sure to order something from the new vegan friendly menu (think vegan cheese ball with crackers) and the Left Handed Gun made from Del Maguay Vida Mezcal, Dolin Gnepy, grenadine and lime. There’s a photo booth too, which may or may not be a good thing depending on how good you are at drinking with coworkers.
Laid Back Brews
The Big Legrowlski (821 NW Couch; 503-206-6481)
This Australian-owned bar is much more civilized than its namesake. Be sure to taste at least a few of the 16 beers on tap. Better yet, grab a growler so happy hour doesn’t have to stop. The taps rotate often and there’s plenty of space to lounge about in the recently acquired area through a doorway to the left of the bar.
#ThursdayToursPDX is a collaborative series between Portland, OR bloggers {Erin} Bakery Bingo + {Meredith} Martha Chartreuse. In a city filled with amazing restaurants, artisan experiences, and fantastic tastemakers the inside scoop is a must. We will be asking our friends and fellow bloggers for their recommendations and tips for all the City of Roses has to offer.
