That is pretty crazy. I started Bakery Bingo in 2011 as a somewhat impromptu decision while traveling through NYC on vacation, with the goal of sharing my favorite bakeries with the world. Things have changed a bit with a greater focus on restaurants (turns out I can’t just eat sweets all day every day, damn…) and food events in Portland. Saturday (Downtown/South Waterfront):

Breakfast at Seastar Bakery: head back to North Portland for a quick stop at my favorite bakery these days. I love their breads made in-house in their wood-fired oven with whole grains like spelt and red wheat. My go-to is the seasonal roasted veggies and oven-fried egg atop a slice of warmed sweet rosemary cornbread. Plus Seastar rarely has a line, even on weekends, double bonus! Continue Reading...

While I’m all about the fancy dinners with multiple courses, bottles of wine and table service (I mean, who doesn’t on occasion?!), that can only happen every so often. Most nights during the week, especially with this new crazy busy job, I just want something casual for dinner if I’m too lazy to cook for myself.

That is part 1 of why I was so excited about CHKCHK opening up just a few blocks from my place. A fast-casual, easy, fun restaurant with great food?! Heck yes. Seriously, the powers that be in the Pearl District, we need more places like that. No more $80 a person restaurants. We have enough. Definitely no more window shade stores. Bring on things like P’s & Q’s markets or Thrive Bowls, like North Portland has! Continue Reading...
