Celebrating My Blogiversary in NYC!

Somehow, I’m not really sure how, but it has been three years since I started this little blog of mine. THREE YEARS! Holy cow. Seriously, a lot of really wonderful, big things have happened since then: I’ve changed jobs, Brice and I bought a condo, I traveled to Europe, Australia and Ecuador.

My blog has changed a lot too: I’ve received a really warm welcome into the Portland blogger community where I’ve learned a ton and made great friends like Rachel and Jane; I’ve been invited to super fun events like my first blogger happy hour with Little Green Pickle at the Bent Brick where I met Michelle and Marisa for the first time or that amazing LGP Blogger Karaoke Food Crawl. Sweet and Salty Granola Recipe

Despite the dreary (read: terrible) weather, we had a phenomenal Blogger Bake Sale outside of Powell’s in the Pearl last weekend!

Fabiola of Not Just Baked was a superstar and organized us 10 bloggers, the space, donations and all the other details. We had a lot of really delicious treats for sale, great people and raised over $500 for Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign!!

Share Our Strength, which was also the beneficiary for Taste of the Nation, is a great non-profit organization with a mission to end childhood hunger. Through their No Kid Hungry campaign, money goes to local organizations like the Oregon Food Bank and Partners for Hunger-Free Oregon, and other similar charities across the nation. These non-profits coordinate programs like free/reduced lunches, school breakfasts and summer food service to low-income children who would not have access to meals otherwise. I especially love that they also work to teach families how to shop for and prepare healthy meals on a budget. Continue Reading...

Taste of the Nation 2014 Recap

If you follow me on Instagram (which you should if you don’t and love numerous photos of food), you probably noticed the amazingness that was my last Tuesday night. Taste of the Nation is one of my favorite food events of the year.

First off, it is a fantastic fundraiser for Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign, which is working hard to end childhood hunger. No Kid Hungry has made a meaningful impact by providing more than 34 million additional meals to kids who need them and teaching more than 100,000 low-income families essential food skills so they can shop for and cook healthy food on a budget. 100% of the night’s ticket sales went to support this great cause.
