Hey friends! Happy first Thursday of September!
It’s been a little while since Meredith and I did a “mashup” of our recommendations for the #ThursdayToursPDX themes we’ve posted about. So we’ve narrowed it down to Lunch and Brunch today. In case you missed it, a little while back, we had the lovely Chloe and Natalie providing their lunch favorites, and Marlynn and Mary Ellen providing their brunch recommendations. Catch up with more of this awesome series on my new page where all these bad boys are now kept!
So without further ado, here’s Meredith’s top 2 lunch and brunch locations. And for more homework, once you finish that, read mine over at Martha Chartreuse.

Hello Bakery Bingo’s Babes!! I’m so excited to be sharing my favorite lunch and brunch spots with you today!
Lunch:
One of my favorite restaurants in Portland, I am particularly fond of grabbing lunch at Mirakutei on a rainy day. I always order the Tonkatsu Ramen – a nourishing and rich broth-based soup loaded with fresh veggies. I also love the eggplant tempura topped with spicy tuna.
Whether I am eating inside or out on the adirondack chairs I almost always order the exact same lunch at Pearl District Staple Lovejoy Bakers: Beet Salad and a Pecan Chocolate Chip Cookie. Usually, I start with the cookie while I wait for my main dish. The salad comes with a generous portion of roasted beets, mixed greens tossed in a tangy dressing, creamy chevre and crusty bread that has been baked on-site. The menu is also loaded with plenty of sandwiches and the pastry case is filled with delectable sweets!
Brunch
Takes reservations. Check! Has pimento. Affirmative! Excellent service. So excellent! Dreamy atmosphere. Swoon worthy! At the end of D-Street you will find one of Portland’s hidden brunch gems, The Woodsman Tavern! When brunching there I like to order several shareable small plates opposed to one large entree. Why? Because I like 3-bites of everything. My favorites include the hot buttered pimento cheese bun, scrapple and crispy potatoes.
This Scandinavian eatery has two locations – the original in SE Portland and my preferred spot, right next to Widmer. The second location has more seating, parking is easy and there is space inside to wait. My favorite menu items include the meatballs, potato pancakes and the apple fritters. No matter what, make sure your meal includes the walnut bread!!

Thanks for the great suggestions! I love that the Woodsman has scrapple. I love to order it just so I can say, “I’d like some scrapple, please.” Mirakutei sounds like a place I definitely need to check out!
