So, September is only two weeks away. I’m not going to lie, it makes me a little sad as summers in Oregon are so great. The beautiful weather, friends coming to town, fun picnics, weddings, and festivals nearly every day of the week. It’s busy and at times chaotic juggling everything, but it’s always wonderful enjoying the Oregon sunshine. So with autumn just around the corner, I am usually a smidge fretful that I haven’t enjoyed summer to the fullest. But that is another reason the ninth month of the year is so nice, it’s the perfect transition month from summer to fall, with still nice weather and packed with great events.

You know, starting a new job is exciting and fun. But it is also a little chaotic trying to figure out what the heck you’re doing! That is definitely the boat I’m in right now. Not to mention all of the other things going on during the summer like fun events, weddings and friends coming into town, I am feeling super busy and between you and me, a tad frazzled. But despite my jam-packed calendar, I would never pass up an opportunity for a blogger’s afternoon at Pacific Pie, which I was invited to two weeks ago.
MEC: Checking Out John Gorham’s New Restaurant
333 NW 13th Ave & Everett • mediterraneanexplorationcompany.com • 503-222-0906
Hours: From 7/16-7/31: Wed-Sun 5:30-10pm; TBA after August 1st
John Gorham’s new restaurant, which was announced back in March, is just about open! I got to attend a really awesome opening party for MEC last weekend. Complete with a DJ, tons of happy guests, delicious cocktails and a sampling of the menu, it was one heck of an evening.
Though a wordy name for a restaurant, Mediterranean Exploration Company is just that, an exploration of the cuisine of Israel, Turkey and North Africa. (You can even see photos of John and MEC Executive Chef Kasey Mills’ research trip to Israel on their website/Facebook page.) Similar to John’s other restaurants, Toro Bravo, Tasty n Sons and Tasty n Alder, MEC’s menu features small plates that will be served family-style as they are prepared.
