Without a doubt, this is post that is WAY late – Counter Culture was over a month ago. However it was so much fun and we had such delicious wine and food that it is still worth talking about. Really not much beats a gorgeous summer evening with a great friend, tasty wine and good food!
Hosted by Anne Amie Vineyards in beautiful Carlton, Oregon, Counter Culture featured wine tastings from 13 wineries, coming from as far as New Zealand.
As a “celebration of international wine and urban street food,” they also had food tastings (with suggested wine pairings of course) from 13 incredible local restaurants. Every restaurant listed was one I loved going to, like D.O.C. and Lovely’s Fifty Fifty, or one I had been dying to try, like Bollywood Theater and the Woodsman Tavern.
Grilled lamb kebabs with a tomato-olive relish served on a fresh pita from the Woodsman Tavern was particularly tasty.
Por Que No’s staff delivered made-to-order corn tortillas!
The line at Violetta never let up. Once you had a bite of their braised beef or veggie sliders topped with Rogue Blue Cheese and caramelized onions, fried onion wedges and harissa ketchup, you’ll definitely know why. It was worth the wait for sure.
Especially when you wait in line with a scoop of Salted Caramel Ice Cream on house made waffle cones made by Lovely’s Fifty Fifty and a glass of Pinot Noir from Newberg’s Colene Clemens!
SE Portland’s Tastebud served up lots of fresh baked bread.
And just when the summer heat seems to be a bit much, you could walk over to the Country Cat booth and pick up a super fun Pinot Noir Sangria Popsicle.
Such a fun great night! Can’t wait for next year!
