It is with mixed emotions that I am writing this post. It is hard to believe that our sabbatical adventures have come to an end. It seems like just a few days ago that I was sitting on the floor outside my closet, staring at my suitcase trying to figure out what to pack. Or just a few days between now and then, that I was in Japan at the beginning of our trip. And now, here I am in the Singapore airport getting ready to head back to Portland!
71 days ago, Brice and I left Portland to go explore Asia.
We visited over 18 cities across 6 countries. We traveled via plane, boat, subway, overnight bus, tuk tuk, and motorbike. We stayed in everything from dorm-room hostels, friends’ homes, 5-star hotels, and AirBnB apartments.
We ate delicious, exotic cuisine, I attempted (but failed) at mastering the art of chopsticks, and occassionally we even considered vegetarianism. I completed my goal of a cooking class in every country, learning to make amazing local food that I can’t wait to try when I get back.
We were lucky to spend time with both sides of the family, as well as old friends we didn’t expect to see abroad and made some incredible friendsips with other travellers. We hiked, kayaked, and attended Crossfits in three countries.
We enjoyed beautiful beaches and learned to SCUBA dive. We read plenty of books and enjoyed time just sitting at cafes relaxing. We saw amazing sights and learned a lot about the history and culture of the regions we visited.
It was an amazing 9 weeks and I am so thankful for the opportunity.
I hope you have enjoyed following along via this blog and Instagram. I plan to put up some additional posts soon with other portions of our trip, as well as possibly go back to put up higher quality photos from previous posts (the computer options were at times very limited making photo uploading challenging!).
A big thank you to my dear friends from the blogosphere and real life, Rachel, Jane, Meredith, Chloe and Michelle, who generously wrote guest posts while I was away.
And thank YOU for being readers of Bakery Bingo! Happy holidays, everyone! I hope you enjoy a wonderful Christmas and wish you the all the best for the start of 2015!
xoxo!
