My mom and I have one of those relationships where we talk a lot. When work or travel get in the way and we don’t talk for 2 or 3 days, my mom usually answers my call with something like “it’s my long lost daughter!” It’s not like it really has been that long, but that’s how it feels when you are used to a more regular cadence. Brice has asked before what our conversations can possibly be about, talking that frequently. We chat about anything – traffic, her dogs, new recipes, work, politics (though that one usually ends up in a fight…). It doesn’t seem to matter the topic.
Thursday Tours: Convenient Eats
Eesh, these last few weeks have been bonkers. This new job has been B.U.S.Y. busy. In particular readjusting to the commuting back and forth to Hillsboro every day has been challenging. Plus with this beautiful weather we’ve been having, I am still wanting to obviously enjoy the outdoors and spend time with friends. So needless to say, something has got to give. For me, sadly, sometimes that thing is cooking myself dinner (and also Thursday Tours – sorry, we haven’t gotten one to you in a while, promise we more awesome posts coming at ya soon!).
Homemade Matzo: Just in Time for Passover
How much are you totally digging this beautiful spring/summer time weather?! Oh man, it’s a nice change up. I spent a portion of the weekend on the deck soaking up the sunshine. It was glorious. What about you?
I am now on a cracker-making kick, ever since trying this Spicy Cocoa Nib recipe by Theo Chocolate. So when I was thinking about what to make for a Passover post, homemade matzo now sounded like an achievable endeavor!
Now, I admit, I’m not much of a Jew. Ok, I mean I was raised Jewish and by the wacky birth rule, since my mom is, I technically am too. But without getting all philosophical on you on a blog post, I do not really practice. I do however love the culture aspect of being Jewish – the welcoming community, the focus of food for nearly any holiday or event, and the resulting overeating. Nearly all of my good friends from college are Jewish, us having met at the Jewish student center on campus having bonded over that aspect of community. We even went to a party freshman year with a box of matzo. Yes, booze and matzo. The making of the best parties.
