Tucked next to the Portland Art Museum is one of my favorite little cafes. When you step into Behind the Museum Cafe, it transports me back to Japan, where we spent a few weeks back in 2014 (geez – how has it been that long already?!) to visit my brother and sister-in-law who live there.

The space is filled with gorgeous Japanese art and clothing; and their menu with delicious Japanese treats that bring back so many happy memories of our trip. Like their onigiri rice balls with various fillings wrapped in seaweed – Brice ate thousands of in our 3-weeks in Japan. Or their creamy matcha tea lattes which I enjoyed nearly every day. Favorite Bakeries of the Rose City

Being asked my favorite bakery is like what I imagine parents go through when asked their favorite child (is that really a question people ask?). It is hard to narrow it down as there are so many great places in Portland. Once I think of one place, another 3 or 4 pop up in my head. Plus there are always new places to investigate like Frice, Milk Glass and Farina which are all on my “must check out” list currently.

So my answer usually depends on two things: 1) what part of town are you in or looking to visit? (Having a massive chocolate craving and having to drive 20 minutes, likely will not work, I speak from experience.) And 2) what kind of sweets are you in the mood for? Continue Reading...

Peanut Butter Brownie Pie with Pretzel Crust!

No, but really how good does that pie sound? Awesome, right?! I love the idea of mixing chocolate with something salty, and I am slightly obsessed with peanut butter so adding that to anything is good by me. Hence my instant love for this pie.

As I mentioned in my earlier blog post, I got a copy of Teeny’s Tour of Pie to check out. I first made a really delicious Strawberry-Rhubarb Pie from her cookbook so I was excited to try another recipe as well.

Brice was skeptical at first. He was unsure about the whole idea of a “pretzel crust,” which was somewhat similar to a graham cracker crust using mashed up pretzels. And he also didn’t really know about the whole brownie in a pie aspect. Continue Reading...
